One degree is small. You can summon it any minute of any day. That is the whole point of it.

The edge is not in some massive overhaul you will start on Monday, in a new life you will get around to once the current one calms down. Overhauls fail because they ask for everything at once, and everything at once is more than a day can hold. One degree asks for almost nothing. A heading changed by one degree. The same life, pointed one degree closer to the person you intend to be.

What one degree looks like

It looks ordinary. One serving measured honestly instead of guessed. One session finished instead of nearly finished. One page read, one call made, one prayer prayed on time instead of eventually. Nobody watching would call it dramatic. That is why it works: a degree is small enough to survive your worst day, and a standard that survives your worst day is the only kind that survives at all.

Where it compounds

A ship that turns one degree arrives in a different country. Turn one degree a day and the arithmetic stops being modest: one degree in your shape, one degree in your character, one degree in your faith, and a season later you are not standing where you started. One hundred and eighty degrees is the full turn, the point where you face exactly opposite to who you were. Nobody jumps there. Everybody who gets there arrives by degrees, most of them too small to photograph.

The standard it serves

Deadly Company exists for that turn. Become your deadliest version: stronger in the body, straighter in character, firmer in faith, and with the strength pointed outward, at something worth serving. The philosophy fits in one sentence because it has to be carried into ordinary days, and ordinary days are where it is either kept or lost.

So pick the degree. The smallest true turn available to you today, in whichever of the three needs it most. Turn it today, and again tomorrow. The edge is one degree, and it is yours any minute you choose it.
